The combination of bread and salt among all Slavic peoples played an important role: bread represents wealth and prosperity, and salt protects against hostile forces. Treating a guest with bread and salt established friendly and trusting relations between him and the host; refusing them was regarded as an insulting gesture.
Traditionally, bread and salt are served on an embroidered handbrake.
In the realities of the modern world, in the conditions of war, friendship between the Slavic peoples has ended. Therefore, this installation carries a sacred and symbolic meaning. Instead of bread and salt, an anti-tank mine with a check. This is how Ukraine now meets aggressively-minded "guests". And on the handbrake, instead of a traditional ornament, weapons and explosions are embroidered, as symbols of war.
